“While the predicted ‘arctic plunge’ of winter 2013 is thankfully yet to materialise, 2013 began, if you remember with ice, freezing temperatures and snowfall disrupting much of the UK. For some businesses this meant a slow start; for others, unfortunately including one of Wolf’s manufacturers, the conditions were severe enough that they ceased to trade.
Throughout what has been a difficult trading period and regardless of market conditions, we continue to invest heavily in products and services designed to support our customers through difficult times.
In early 2013 challenges ensued for the house building industry, with signs of recovery in April and May leading to gradual improvement over the course of the year. In July, after increased demand for new housing, house prices tentatively started to rise – something the press was quick to pick up on, inflating housing demand further still.
New house sales were also stimulated by the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme, while the upturn in the housing market was prolonged by brick and block shortages over the summer that tempered building activity. In response, house builders strengthened their workforces and began opening more sites.
